The Furnace from Home Alone

The furnace is a pretty fun piece I did in school. I was given the task of drawing the furnace from Home Alone in one of my classes. I wasn’t super stoked about the idea; c’mon, it’s just a furnace! That mentality didn’t last long, however, as I quickly began to run with some pretty crazy ideas.

I started twisting and mangling this absolute monster of a furnace, trying to put my mind into that of a scared 8-year-old boy, with a nightmarish imagination running rampant. The project quickly became very fun as I started creating a sort of living entity out of the sinister furnace.

I illustrated this piece traditionally with my mechanical pencil and ink pens. It was scanned and brought into Adobe Photoshop for color. I also created a frame-by-frame animation for it in Photoshop!
